The Cecilian Singers are a chamber chorale of
23 professional musicians dedicated to performing the unaccompanied repertoire and
literature accompanied by solo instrument or small ensemble. Capitalizing on the maturity
of adult voices and a carefully prepared ensemble, The Cecilian Singers perform literature
for all voicings, mens and womens, as well as mixed, programming selections
that are accessible to the general musical audience and worthy of attention. Repertoire
has included works by Bach, Barber, Berlinski, Brahms, Bird, Kay, Poulenc, Rutter, Susa,
Verdi, Victoria and Villa-Lobos. The singers are chosen by audition and rehearse regularly
from September through May. Most of the singers who have performed with the group have
degrees in music; others have extensive musical background and experience. Musical
Director James C. Myers has conducted choral groups professionally since 1955 and has
published choral compositions.
The Cecilian Singers receive significant
support from The Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC), The Ohio Arts Council
(OAC), and The Columbus Foundation.
